Catalog Design - Art Directed and designed companies 200 page catalog, working with graphics department and production department following through to press check at printer.
Video Production - Produce and edit videos: concepting, shooting video, using 2D and 3D animation, recording voice over, choosing the music to final production. Videos used on company website, Amazon, social media and trade shows. Created all the videos on company's youTube Channel.
Web Design - Helped design and maintain companies website on Shopify.
Senior Designer - Baker Design 1999-2018
Package Design - From concept to final design, worked on and designed some of the most iconic brands in the industry. Perfected doing 3D logos something we called "Puff and Glow" and Illustrated characters used in kid's brands packaging.
3D Modeling - Modeled and rendered 3D images of products and displays mostly for club stores not only for my designs but for others as well using Strata Design 3D plus produced architectural renders for interior design department.
Video Production - Using Final Cut Pro and After Effects produced and edited videos from concepting, choosing the music, producing the audio plus creating the still and motion graphics. Primarily for commercials and promotional videos.
Web Design - Designed and developed the company’s original website.
Associate Creative Director - Cy DeCosse/CPI 1992-1999
Package Design - From concept to final design, consisting of primarily food packaging and outdoor/fishing industry packaging.
Catalog Design - Designed several catalogs, doing the original layout and art directing the photography then designing and producing the catalog in Quark.
Book Design - Designed books using Quark Express, I worked on some beautiful coffee table books and instructional how-to books including “Chased by the Light”, technical instructional illustrations for the how-to books.
Product Design - Using Illustrator and Strata 3D designed products such as rods and reels for the outdoor fishing industry.
Interactive Design - Using Authorware designed and created an interactive CD-ROM called the Art of Fly Tying with hundreds of instructional videos on how to tie flies.
Web Design - I designed and developed the company website.
Creative Director - Balgaard Tripp 1990-1992
Partner of a small start-up ad agency mostly focused on the outdoor industry doing ad and collateral design. Oversaw all creative which included setting up the Mac Network and hiring and training designers and managing the graphics department.
Creative Director - Seasons Magazine 1986-1990
Oversaw creative, responsible for the hiring and training of new designers and growing the graphics department. Went from traditional old-school graphic design to desktop publishing being one of the first places in Minnesota to go from computer directly to film, bypassing the dark-room and stripping phase of magazine production.
KMSP 9 1984-1986
Designed and illustrated on screen television graphics primarily for the news department and weather department, courtroom illustration.
Hardware Hank 1982-1984
Graphic Designer for corporate in-house graphics department doing layout and design and keylining for corporate circulars and in-store graphics.
KARE 11 1980-1982
Designed and illustrated on screen television news and weather graphics plus courtroom illustration.
Skills
If it can be done on a Mac I pretty much can do it. I was an early adopter of the Macintosh desktop publishing revolution and it has served me well. Going from traditional design and layout using skills like keylining, stat cameras, and stripping when the desktop first came around I was all in. I started with Quark Express in 1987 then got my first copy of Adobe Illustrator in 1988 (Illustrator 88) and I never looked back. In the early 90's I also got into web design and have designed, produced and host many websites, including this one. I had been messing around with Adobe Premier when it first came out but when Final Cut Pro came around I really got into video production. More recently I have also gotten into music production using ProTools for my band the Balgaard Brothers.
